Owned and run by Jim George, English, and himself still teaching full-time. Jim has been teaching full time in Nagano prefecture, since returning to Japan in 1993.
Luna International did exist before Jim bought the business in 1998, originally based in Nagano city. Nowadays the school is firmly established in Matsumoto city, and has been in its refurbished large premises since 2002. (Luna sold it’s Nagano branch in 2005). Jim works hard to remain in close touch with all aspects of the school, in particular with the students & their learning progress.

Luna International is committed to providing quality fun learning in an English speaking environment. We take care to place students in the right class, and encourage potential students to come and observe classes (free, and free of any obligation) to decide for themselves. Our class sizes are small, ensuring all students get a lot of teacher attention and the opportunity to express themselves. All classes follow textbooks which are chosen to suit the class’s particular needs & abilities.

Luna International does provide “in-house” classes, which can be arranged to suit you. Often we find a group of friends want to study together – and why not?! We will come to you.

Luna International’s premises are modern, spacious, and well appointed. Students & parents can relax in our comfortable main room. They can watch BBC News or cartoons if they like, or browse our large collection of graded readers on display. It’s also a good place to catch up on homework, or have a chat with our teachers, who prepare for their classes in the same area.

Examinations

As the only Authorised Centre for Cambridge ESOL in eastern Japan, Luna International is unique in the region. Luna International encourages its students to measure their English against a worldwide benchmark. There are a myriad of exams available to English students; we firmly believe Cambridge ESOL provides the fairest, most balanced, and most reliable assessment of learners’ all round skills.

Luna International – Nagano JP004 offers a range of examinations for adults & children, as well as to teachers. Luna International is an Open Centre, which means we accept candidates from outside the school. All candidates are welcome. Teachers & parents wishing to enter candidates for YLE should contact us here
Luna International is the administrative centre for Cambridge Young Learners (YLE) taken throughout the Eastern half of Japan, from Hokkaido to Chiba, the Pacific Ocean seaboard to Aichi/Gifu/Ichikawa prefectures. We are actively engaged in bringing Cambridge ESOL exams to a wider candidature in Japan.

Luna International is responsible for recruiting, training & co-ordinating Oral Examiners (OEs). Training & co-ordination sessions are ongoing throughout the year, and across the country, so please check the calendar for details.

Luna International offers specialised exam preparation classes tailored to your particular needs, on demand. However, children’s classes are not YLE preparation classes as such; we believe the exams are excellent stand alone assessments of how well our students are progressing overall. All children are encouraged to take YLE when they are able to do well (not perfectly).

• November 2000: Luna International first to offer YLE in Nagano prefecture.
• Summer 2000: Luna International runs 1st Cambridge ESOL Oral Examiner Training sessions in Nagano prefecture.
• November 2001: Luna International offers 1st KET & PET session in Nagano prefecture.
• Spring 2004: Luna International runs 1st BULATS OE Training Session
• 2006: Luna International becomes YLE Centre, Yuki becomes LS, Owen becomes OETC, Jim becomes TL
• March 2006: Luna International offers FCE in Nagano prefecture for the first time.
• January 2007: Luna International becomes STEP BULATS agent.
• June 2007: Luna International approved as Open Centre for all Cambridge ESOL Lower & Upper Main Suite examinations.
• Jan 2008: First Luna student enters Waseda University, having taken YLE Flyers, PET & FCE at Luna.
